“Good Books Don’t Have to Be Hard”
Posted on August 29th, 2009

Lev Grossman has an interesting article entitled “Good Books Don’t Have to Be Hard” in the 29 August edition of The Wall Street Journal. I tend to share his conflicted views of Modernism (especially as it affected novels in the early decades of the 20th century), but I am not yet convinced about his argument regarding the changing trends in the styles and structures of contemporary novels (especially with respect to his assertions about Cormac McCarthy and Thomas Pynchon).
