Home Schooling and Children

The Kindle 2 is the impressive new version of Amazon’s ereader. There are a number of improvements over the original version of the Kindle. These include the thickness, amount of books it can hold, and battery power.

There are many other new features on the Kindle 2 that might not be so obvious. Here are some of the reasons that I bought the latest Kindle.

The keyboard has been completely redesigned and has a nice new keyboard. The position and shape of the keys are definite improvements over the original keyboard. The keys are now round.

I really like the 5 way joystick that they’ve included on the Kindle 2. It makes the navigation so much easier than on the original Kindle which just had a scroll bar and was difficult to get exactly where you wanted to be on the Kindle screen.

Although the Kindle 2 does not have an SD card slot like the Kindle 1 it has much more storage capability. It holds over 1,500 books right on the device itself so there really isn’t much need for an SD card slot.

I’m still waiting for Amazon to come out with color technology on the Kindle but at least we now have 16 shades of gray as opposed to only 4 shades on the Kindle 1. Since there aren’t really a lot of pictures to look at while reading paperbacks this isn’t really too big of a deal to me but it’s still nice having more shades of gray.

The buttons to go to the next page are in a much better area now. The original Kindle had buttons that went along almost the whole side of the Kindle which made accidental page turns very easy and also very annoying.

The new Kindle is even thinner than the Kindle 1 which was pretty thin itself. It is now about 1/3 of an inch thick and it still weighs less than most paperback books.

You can read for a few days on a single charge. The battery life is about 25% longer than with the original Kindle. If you remember to turn off the wireless feature when not using your Kindle 2, you can make the charge last even longer, over one week.

The Text-to-Speech feature is also a very cool feature that is new on the Kindle 2. This can come in handy if you want to have your book read to you while your hands are tied up. The only problem is that not all books have this feature enabled although most do.

Although there are many other great new features on the Kindle 2 these are most of my favorites. I bought mine when the price was $359 and now they’ve dropped the price down to $299. If you’re an avid reader like myself, I think that the Kindle 2 is well worth the price.

Learning how to write a book can be quite a daunting task. There are so many decisions to be made and so many hurdles to overcome.
